PROGRAM MISSION
With support from the Eugene M. Lang Foundation, ETA’s Lang Arts Scholars program provides 15 students from ETA's NYC Partner Schools with fully-funded, intensive training in the performing arts, coupled with a wrap-around, college and career preparatory curriculum. Students participate during after-school, weekend, and summer hours for three, consecutive years.

Make technical progress in chosen artistic craft through sequential training.
Develop critical insights about art form and the means to express self through writing, speaking, and performance skills.
College Readiness & Career Preparation
Set short and long-term goals for academic career by participating in a curriculum focusing on college prep and career readiness.
Explore on and offstage career options in the performing arts.
Personal Growth
Gain better understanding of wellness practices and self-care before entering college and/or career.
Develop positive relationships with peers and adult mentors in an inclusive, supportive, and welcoming environment.
HOW TO APPLY
APPLICATIONS FOR 2024 ARE NOW CLOSED
After the application window closes we invite selected applicants to audition and interview for placement in the program in late March/April.
To be eligible for the Lang Arts Scholars Program you must be:
On track to pass all of their 9th-grade classes at an ETA Partner School
Proficient in dance, music (instrumental/vocal), or theater, and still developing
Eager to commit to weekly, after-school arts training throughout the school year in grades 10, 11, and 12 and to attend Saturday sessions, once each month, for college prep and career readiness support
Available for short-term summer programming after grades 10 and 11
Otherwise unable to afford to participate in this level of artistic and college prep programming
Not already in a pre-college intensive
Fully vaccinated for Covid-19 by the day of their audition, if they are selected
ARTS TRAINING
Lang Arts Scholars offers students three years of fully-funded lessons in their art form to refine their performance skills and advance their artistry in one of the following disciplines (Note: Students can only train in one performing arts discipline):
Music (Instrumental or vocal) students receive private lessons once per week.
Dance students attend two dance classes each week.
Theatre students attend sequential acting classes every semester.

SCHOLAR SATURDAY PROGRAMMING
ETA's Lang Arts Scholars will gain exposure to New York City's cultural landscape and artistic industry one Saturday per month. Our Saturday curriculum will include viewing music, dance, and theatre performances; museum visits; conversations with influential professionals in the performing arts; local college visits; writing workshops through an arts lens; standardized test prep; and explorations of career options on and off stage.

COLLEGE PREP
Whether students decide to apply for college, conservatory, or go into the workforce, this program will help them make informed choices that fit their educational and personal needs.
Program Curriculum
Rigorous standardized test prep including a diagnostic exam for the SAT/ACT
Critical writing skills workshops beginning in 10th grade
Researching and creating a list of programs and colleges
Applying to a range of schools
Understanding and applying for financial aid (including 1:1 counseling during 12th grade)
Building a resume and activity sheets for the application
Interview prep (including mock interviews)
Writing the personal statement and supplemental essays
Preparing for college auditions
Information sessions and tours with colleges
Identifying and applying for scholarships
SUMMER PROGRAMMING
There are two summer programs that are mandatory for Lang Arts Scholars.
The summer after 10th grade, students participate in a two-week arts intensive on a local college campus. Scholars will continue learning about their art form while getting a feel for what it means to study the arts in college.
The summer after 11th grade, Scholars will participate in a paid, project-based internship, which could include work experience at a local arts organization or audition coaching for those applying to school for onstage careers.
